Eczema-Friendly Bras
If a bra leaves your skin red, itchy or sore by lunchtime, the fabric and fittings are usually the cause — not you. Every JulieMay bra is dermatologist-tested and made from breathable organic Pima cotton lined with pure silk, with wire-free shapes, smooth flat seams, nickel-free fastenings and no exposed elastic. It means women across the UK living with eczema, dermatitis and reactive skin can wear a bra all day without triggering a flare.
What makes a bra eczema-friendly
Eczema-prone skin tends to react to three things in an ordinary bra: rough or synthetic fabric, friction from seams and bands, and chemical or metal irritants such as dyes, latex elastic and nickel fastenings. An eczema-friendly bra removes those triggers. It sits softly against the skin, breathes so heat and sweat don’t build up in the under-breast fold, and keeps any elastic or metal away from direct contact. Our bras are built to exactly that brief and carry the Allergy UK Seal of Approval.
Best fabrics for eczema-prone skin
Natural, breathable fibres are kindest to a compromised skin barrier. Organic Pima cotton is long-staple, exceptionally soft and grown without the pesticide residues found in conventional cotton, so there is less for skin to react to. We line every bra with pure silk — naturally hypoallergenic, antibacterial and temperature-regulating — which wicks moisture away and glides over sore skin instead of rubbing it. We keep polyester, nylon and elastane away from the skin, because synthetics trap heat and can worsen itching. For a full comparison, read organic cotton vs bamboo vs synthetic.

Frequently asked questions
- What fabric is best for eczema under the bust?
- Soft, breathable natural fibres. Organic cotton with a pure silk lining lets heat and moisture escape from the under-breast fold, which is where irritation and intertrigo tend to start.
- Are underwired bras bad for eczema?
- The wire itself doesn’t cause eczema, but pressure, friction and nickel in the fittings can trigger reactions. If your skin is flaring, a wire-free or silk-lined style removes those pressure points.
- Can a bra be both supportive and eczema-friendly?
- Yes. A full-cup wire-free design with wide, silk-lined straps and a covered band gives real support with nothing abrasive against the skin.
