A Letter From Our Founder

A letter from Tiffany to the community that made us, in her own words.

It is JulieMay’s birthday, and I have found myself thinking about just how much has changed.

Last year was a meaningful one. We spent more time together as a team, not just working but actually connecting. We hosted events where we invited speakers to talk about women’s health and skin sensitivity, and we built a community I am genuinely proud of.

As a founder, your brain never really switches off. You are always thinking about what could be better, what to fix next, what problem needs solving. I used to feel responsible for everything, and believed there must be an instant solution to every problem. The truth is, not everything can be sorted in the next minute, and that is alright.

This year I learned to slow down a little, trust the process, and keep building while also allowing a bit of space to breathe. I spent more time with my family, and made a little more peace in the middle of all the building.

On sizing

JulieMay bras fit differently because our fabrics stretch differently. To understand this sizing mystery properly, I spent days in my garage measuring every bra I owned, which is exactly as glamorous as it sounds. A JulieMay bra usually stretches around 12 to 16 cm across the band. Most synthetic bras made with nylon and spandex stretch much further, often 16 to 20 cm, and moulded T shirt bras and high compression sports bras stretch further still. That difference changes how a bra fits, and it is why the usual size charts do not always translate to JulieMay. I am working on a smarter, AI assisted bra quiz, and exploring virtual fittings, to guide you far more personally.

On health education

JulieMay started from very personal experience. I have lived with allergies and autoimmune conditions for years, and I have watched people I love struggle with their skin too. Because of that, I want JulieMay to spend more time helping people understand skin sensitivity and the conditions that can affect it, from atopic eczema, contact dermatitis and intertrigo, to the links between certain medical conditions and skin irritation, such as mast cell disease, lupus and Sjögren’s.

On stock

Our bras are handmade and take far more time than moulded bras made by machines, sometimes five to ten times the human hours. We also carry a very wide size range across many styles, which spreads our inventory thin. For very popular bras like Debbie, certain sizes can sell out within a day of restocking. So we are gradually focusing on fewer styles, while keeping different shapes for different needs, so we can build deeper stock in each size and reduce the waiting. It may mean saying a fond goodbye to a few styles over time, but it lets us keep our core bras better stocked, and bring new and better designs along the way.

Most importantly

I want to say this clearly: I hear you. JulieMay exists because of the community that supports it. Every message, every piece of feedback, and every story you share about your skin, your comfort and your experience helps shape what we build next. And I am very excited for what the next years of JulieMay will become.
